Urgent Alert for Illinois Customers
Not long ago, Attorney General Lisa Madigan warned Illinois residents to be on the alert for scam artists posing as collectors of consumer loan debt. Recently, we have had several reports of people contacting our customers posing as collectors, claiming to work on our behalf.
The reports that we have received are similar to the cases described by the Attorney General’s office. The calls seem to originate from outside the United States; the fake collector is aware of personal consumer information, such as name, Social Security number, place of employment, and bank account information; and often the caller threatens legal action if payment is not made immediately. The con artists use a variety of business names and although many are phony, some are names of legitimate businesses that are being used without authorization.
This is of great concern to us as we value our customers and take every precaution to protect your information. We assure you that we have not had a security breach on our end, and we are working with the authorities to determine the source of this contact.
If you should be contacted by anyone claiming to work for us, or an outside collection agency on our behalf, ask the debt collector to authenticate the debt they are trying to collect. If you have any doubt, before providing any personal or financial data, ask for the caller's name, phone number, and extension, and contact us immediately at 847-827-9740, extension 8020 or toll-free at 877-304-2274, extension 8020.
